TMI swimmers make a splash at Palo Alto meet

The varsity swim team of TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas took several top-place finishes at the Alamo Area High School Invitational Swim Meet No. 2, held Nov. 7 at Palo Alto College. Sophomore Elizabeth Holmes won first place in the 200 individual medley and took control of both the medley and free relays for first-place finishes. TMI honors Homecoming court

  DeAndre Wilson and Elise Notzon, seniors at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, were crowned Homecoming king and queen at halftime during the Oct. 31 Homecoming game against Cornerstone Christian Schools. Notzon was crowned by TMI Registrar Barbara Zenner, who is celebrating her 30th year of service to the school. Other members of the senior court were Homecoming princesses Kaylen Key, Johanna Kullenberg and Anjolaoluwa Olunaike; and princes Will Anthony, Guy Barker and Will Gaines. TMI junior selected for student medical congress

  Will Sowell, a junior at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, has been nominated to attend the Congress of Future Medical Leaders, to be held Nov. 14-16 in Washington D.C. Presented by the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists, the Congress is an honors-only program for high-school students who want to become physicians or to go into medical research fields. TMI announces JROTC awards

The Texas Military Institute Corps of Cadets (JROTC) of TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas announced its October Cadet of the Month awards for Upper and Middle School. They are: Ana Paula Velasco, a sophomore in Charlie Company; and Jordan Aw, a seventh grader also in Charlie Company. These cadets were nominated by their companies to compete in the monthly contest. Cadets were inspected, quizzed on TMI Corps knowledge and local and national chains of command until there was one winner from each division. Winners of TMI’s Mole Day contest. TMI freshman chosen for top orchestra

Perry Aw, a freshman at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, was selected for the first violin section of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Region XI Symphony Orchestra. He was one of 16 chosen for this honor out of more than 100 violinists who auditioned. TMEA sponsors the Texas All State audition process, which begins with more than 55,000 students from around the state. About 1,500 are chosen for regional bands, choirs and orchestras. TMI senior leads Rotarians in service project

Elise Notzon, a senior at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas enlisted the help of members of the Dominion Rotary Club in making special “lovie” dolls that help parents of premature infants bond with their children while the babies are still in hospital neonatal intensive care units (NICU). At the club’s Sept. 30 meeting, Notzon showed the Rotarians how to make the dolls, a project of the Threads of Love needlework ministry. TMI seniors named Commended Students

Three seniors at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas were named Commended Students by the National Merit Scholarship Program. William Gaines, Brianna Hernandez and Kelsey Lansdale all placed among the top five percent of students who took the 2013 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Each was presented with a Letter of Commendation on Sept. 23 during daily chapel by Upper School Division Head Bob Ridewood. TMI student earns Congressional Award

Gopinath Thangada, a senior at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, received a Congressional Award silver medal Sept. 15, presented by U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith in his district office. The Congressional Award is a program of the U.S. Congress for young Americans, ages 14 to 23. Participants earn Bronze, Silver and Gold Congressional Award Certificates and Bronze, Silver and Gold Congressional Award Medals. Thangada has previously received the Congressional Award bronze medal and has earned his Gold certificate, with the medal to be presented June 2015 in Washington D.C.
