TMI students named AP Scholars

Students and recent graduates from TMI – The Episcopal School were named 2015 AP Scholars by the College Board, which administers the Advanced Placement (AP) examinations. The AP Scholar Awards Program recognizes high-school students who have done outstanding work in AP (college-level) courses. TMI 2015 graduates Isabel Magraner and Maria Zurita received the program’s highest honor. As National AP Scholars, they earned an average score of 4 (out of a possible 5) on eight or more AP exams. Magraner currently attends Yale University, and Zurita attends the University of Chicago. Frost completes TMI board service

Tom C. Frost, chairman emeritus of Frost Bank, was honored for completing his sixth term on the Board of Governors of TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas at a June 4 meeting. Frost, a member of the TMI class of 1945, also served the school as chairman of the 2006-2008 “We’re on a Mission” capital campaign that surpassed its goal of $12.5 million to build All Saints Chapel and three new residence halls. TMI appoints new board members

Two new members have joined the Board of Governors at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas. Patrick R. Garcia, a member of the school’s class of 1972, is president of Division Laundry and Cleaners. A previous president of the TMI Alumni Council (now Association), he is a member of the board of the St. Mary’s University Alumni Association; serves on the steering committee of the Citizens’ Bond Committee of Northside Independent School District; and as an alternate member representing industries on the Region L, South Texas Regional Water Planning Group. TMI grad wins special Miss Texas honor

Brooke Dippo-Foderaro, a 2013 graduate of TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas who was chosen Miss San Antonio earlier this year, received a special award presented at the Miss Texas Pageant on July 7. She was recognized as the contestant who raised the most contributions for the Children’s Miracle Network, the charity supported by the Miss America organization. Dippo-Foderaro raised more than $3,400 to be donated to this national network of children’s hospitals, including the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio. Area student wins national music award

Cellist Christine Lamprea of Leon Springs, a graduate of TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas the Juilliard School, won first place, senior division, in the annual Sphynx Competition, held Feb. 17 at the Max M. Fisher Music Center in Detroit. The competition is open to young African American and Hispanic classical string players. Finalists receive the opportunity to compete under the guidance of an internationally renowned panel of judges and to perform with established professional musicians. TMI cadets and Kampmann recipients at the Kampmann family reception

TMI cadets were on hand to usher at the Friday evening plaque dedication at the Menger Hotel, February 1, honoring John Herman Kampmann by the Texas Historical Commission. Two TMI seniors, Lauren Chu and Emily Schlosberg, are this year’s recipients of the merit scholarship named after Mrs. Kampmann. Young alums school TMI seniors about college

Four recent graduates of TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas took time from their winter break to share their college knowledge with this year’s seniors at the annual Alumni College Panel, held Tuesday, Jan. 08, in Frost Athletic Center. The returning young alumni were Kyle Bowers ’10, a junior biochemistry/premedical studies major at the University of Tulsa; Andrew Murphy ’11, a Vassar College sophomore; Morgan McMillian ’12, a freshman at Texas A&M University; and Mackenzie White ’12, a freshman in the Plan II Honors Program at the University of Texas at Austin. TMI graduate competes in the Tough Mudder obstacle course

David Bell, TMI Class of 2003 and currently a law student at St. Mary’s University, completed the Austin Area Tough Mudder in Bastrop on 11 October 2011. Tough Mudder events feature a twelve-mile obstacle course designed by British Special Forces to test strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. More than half-a-million athletes have participated in Tough Mudder events worldwide, and the organization has raised more than two million dollars for the Wounded Warrior Project.
