TMI clay shoot boosts scholarships

8/22/2018 The TMI Alumni Association will host its 18th annual TMI Alumni Modified Sporting Clay Shoot on Friday, Sept. 7, at the San Antonio Gun Club, 928 Contour Drive. The shooting competition, which benefits student scholarships, also includes dinner and an awards program.

Participants compete for prizes in team and individual categories, with additional awards for best all-alumni team and best ladies’ team. New this year is a Hot Sauce Contest, open to all, for a chance to win “People’s Choice Best Hot Sauce.” Sponsorships are still available, with opportunities for recognition throughout the event. Cost is $150 for individuals (includes two boxes of 12- or 20-gauge shells); $500 for a team of four if paid in advance); and $550 for a team, paid at the event. A Mexican grill dinner – beef fajitas, chicken, rice and beans, tortillas and pico de gallo, to be cooked onsite — is included with registration or available separately for families and friends ($30 for adults, $10 for children ages 12 and up and free to children under 12).

To register, call (210) 828-9860, visit http://www.tmialumni.org/skeet or register in person at the event. Check-in and registration opens at noon; shooting start times begin at 12:30 p.m., and dinner is available as participants complete the shoot.  The event’s chairman is former TMI Alumni Association President Ernest Brown, TMI class of 1980, with help from a committee including Eduardo “Wayo” Canales, class of 1991, who is also the event’s food sponsor; and Al Hartman, class of 1959. Since 2000, the TMI alumni clay shoot has raised more than $90,000 for the TMI Alumni Association Scholarship, a merit award for students in good academic standing who are relatives of TMI alumni. This year’s recipients are juniors Harrison Fentress, son of Thomas Fentress, TMI class of 1981; and Diego Ampudia, nephew of Frank K. Willy, TMI 1954.
