John Liu Awarded “Best In Show” at TAPPS Photography Competition

John Liu ’24 independently entered a TAPPs photography competition last semester. The competition consisted of a total of 1,284 students participating from 56 schools throughout Texas. John Liu submitted 18 photos in total and received recognition for nine of them. Four of his photos won first place, one photo earned second place, one photo earned third place and three photos earned honorable mentions, which resulted in ultimately taking first place in the entire competition and being named “Best in Show”! TMI Art Students Win Scholastic Awards, Advance to National Competition

TMI art students competed in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, and we have many regional winners. Gretchen Tiede ‘23 earned Gold Key awards on her paintings Light Years from Home and Trick or Truth. Maria Kyle’s ‘23  painting Hivemind also earned a Gold Key, the top local honor. Sara Homma’s ’22 Portfolio Las Caras de Mexico won top honors and a total of five Gold Key Awards.  All of these will advance to the National Level of Scholastic Competition. Harthan ’21 displays her award-winning photo at Bronx Documentary Center TMI alumna Chloe Harthan ’21 was selected to display her award-winning photo entitled “Identity is a Myth – Who is Ever Truly Real” at the Bronx Documentary Center in Bronx, NY, in September 2021.   In the summer of 2020, Chloe took a summer course with The School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s (SAIC’s) Early College Program and was assigned to make use of working outdoors because of social distancing practices.
