
Gregory Worth Gilland ’87 served as reviewing officer at the Veterans Day Pass in Review, observed on Nov. 11, 2017, by the Texas Military Institute Corps of Cadets.Greg, who achieved the rank of cadet captain at TMI, where he was a company commander and drill team commander during his senior year, is also a 1992 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He served on the USS Comte de Grasse for two years as the damage control officer and for one year as the navigator and went on to serve as propulsion readiness officer at Regional Support Group Norfolk before leaving active duty as a lieutenant in 1997.
He remained in the Naval Reserve for the next 10 years, serving as executive officer of Flight Deck Unit 1 and of Frigate Augment Unit 1, both based in Charleston, S.C. Greg achieved the rank of lieutenant commander in the Naval Reserve; he was twice awarded the Navy Commendation Medal as well as numerous campaign medals and deployment awards.
Currently, he is director of marketing and sales for North American operations with a German manufacturer that develops products for vehicle companies. Greg lives in San Antonio and has four children.
TMI alumni attending the Pass in Review ceremony, including Patrick Norrgran ’70, were invited to stand and be recognized.
A highlight of the event was the surprise reunion of current cadet Ewan Aitken ’23, whose father, Army Col. Mark Aitken, had just returned from deployment to Puerto Rico, and was called out from the stands to join his son on the field.
