Report by Cadet Erica Cavazos, S-2 On January 18, TMI held its traditional Military Ball at the La Cantera Resort—a new location for a memorable celebration of our school’s 120th year. Military Ball also had a significant 782 members of attendance – one of whom was our guest speaker, Bexar County Sheriff Susan Pamerleau. Sheriff Pamerleau served in the United States Air Force for 32 years, earning the rank of Major General. TMI senior receives appointment to Air Force Academy

Falon Little, a senior at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, has received an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. The appointment is equivalent to a full, four-year scholarship at the Academy, where graduates are prepared to become professional Air Force officers. Little serves as Battalion Commander of the Texas Military Institute Corps of Cadets, the top-ranking student officer of the school’s JROTC unit and attended the Academy’s summer program last summer. Appointments to the Academy are awarded to only about 1,200 of 9,700 applicants. Cadets shadow at Camp Bullis

by CDT 2LT Erica Cavazos, Battalion S2 TMI’s Corps of Cadets spent the day shadowing military counterparts on Saturday, September 7, 2013. The day involved great experiences and views on the real military and what they do (or at least a few do) in comparison to our battalion/jobs. For example, our Battalion Commander was able to shadow and inquire on what a real Battalion Commander does with his time and his duties. Hosted at Camp Bullis, TMI’s cadet leadership (Platoon Sergeants and above) had the great opportunity of shadowing the reflective positions we currently hold. Cadet Clark makes his first solo flight

On Friday, June 28, 2013, Cadet Jonathan “JAC” Clark flew a Cessna 172 solo for the first time. Cadet Clark was the recipient of the Daedalian’s Cadet Flight Indoctrination Program Scholarship this past spring. The Order of the Daedalians is a fraternal order of military pilots, and the local chapter, Stinson Flight#2, holds an annual competition for four coveted slots for pilot training. The awards and scholarship programs of the Order encourage patriotism, integrity, and good character in our nation’s youth. TMI names Cadet of the Semester

TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas has announced Cadet of the Semester awards for two members of the Texas Military Institute Corps of Cadets, the school’s JROTC program. Junior Brooks Freeland was named Upper School Cadet of the Semester, and seventh-grader Eloise Owen was named Middle School Cadet of the Semester. Cadet of the Semester honorees are chosen from those who already have received Cadet of the Month distinctions during the current school year. TMI students bound for Boys State

Two students from TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas were nominated to attend Texas Boys State 2013, to be held June 9-14 on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. Juniors Jake Fox and Steele Sessions, both first sergeants in the Texas Military Institute Corps of Cadets (JROTC), will be sponsored by American Legion Post 593 in Converse, of which TMI’s assistant commandant, retired Army Maj. TMI orienteering team finds the way to competition victory

The Orienteering Team of the Texas Military Institute Corps of Cadets of TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas had a successful outing at the Feb. 16 Orienteering Competition sponsored by Boy Scout Troop 498. The event tested the participants’ ability to navigate over rough terrain to locate up to 20 points in 90 minutes. The TMI girls’ team of Erica Cavazos, Ashley Kim, Sophia Miranda-Fred and Anna Webb took first place in their group event, while male cadets won top-place individual awards. TMI crowns Military Ball Queen

Cadet Capt. Katie Hazzard, a senior at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, was crowned queen of the school’s annual Military Ball, which honors the seniors of the Texas Military Institute Corps of Cadets (JROTC). Hazzard was one of four battalion staff and company sweethearts, female cadets who are selected on the basis of resumes listing their Corps duty positions, varsity sports, extracurricular activities and honors and awards. This year’s sweethearts were: Hazzard, representing Battalion Staff; Cadet 1st Sgt. Falon Little, Alpha Company; Cadet Staff Sgt. Erica Cavazos, Bravo Company; and Cadet Sgt. Alpha Company 2nd Platoon, Best Drilled

In December, both platoons from each company competed against each other in a competition known as Best Drilled Platoon. The platoon sergeants lead the platoons in a series of guidelines that they must adhere by in order to achieve a perfect score. The guidelines consist of inspection and knowledge, drilling and facing movements, and a special exhibition move that the platoons must create and perform at the end of their routine.
