TMI crowns Military Ball Queen

Former TMI Military Ball Queen Emalee Hamilton crowns Cadet Capt. Katie Hazzard queen of the school’s 2013 Military Ball, held Feb. 9 at the Omni San Antonio Hotel.

Cadet Capt. Katie Hazzard, a senior at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, was crowned queen of the school’s annual Military Ball, which honors the seniors of the Texas Military Institute Corps of Cadets (JROTC).

Hazzard was one of four battalion staff and company sweethearts, female cadets who are selected on the basis of resumes listing their Corps duty positions, varsity sports, extracurricular activities and honors and awards.

This year’s sweethearts were: Hazzard, representing Battalion Staff; Cadet 1st Sgt. Falon Little, Alpha Company; Cadet Staff Sgt. Erica Cavazos, Bravo Company; and Cadet Sgt. Jessica Corley, Charlie Company. Escorted by male cadet officers, sweethearts wearing white, floor-length gowns were presented formally to the gathering of about nearly 700 cadets, civilian students, alumni, parents and other guests.

Following the presentation, Hazzard was crowned by Emalee Hamilton, Queen of the 2012 Military Ball, now a freshman at Texas A&M University.

As a cadet, Hazzard is a company commander, received the 2012 U.S. Army Recruiting Command Award and has been a color guard member and peer instructor for New Cadet Training. She plays varsity softball, has run cross-country and has received highest honors in Junior Classical League competition.
