TMI orienteering team finds the way to competition victory

Lt. Gen. William B. The girls’ team won first place in their group event, and other cadets won top-place individual awards.

The Orienteering Team of the Texas Military Institute Corps of Cadets of TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas had a successful outing at the Feb. 16 Orienteering Competition sponsored by Boy Scout Troop 498.

The event tested the participants’ ability to navigate over rough terrain to locate up to 20 points in 90 minutes. The TMI girls’ team of Erica Cavazos, Ashley Kim, Sophia Miranda-Fred and Anna Webb took first place in their group event, while male cadets won top-place individual awards. Elias Gil Valdez won first place; Michael Rakauskas, third; and Cole Davila, fourth.

The TMI team was recognized with distinction by Lt. Gen. William B. Caldwell IV, commander of the U.S. Army North (Fifth Army), who gave each cadet a coin for excellence.

The Orienteering Team is one of several special teams in which members of the TMI Corps can choose to participate.
