Eighth grader contributes to ChicaGirl magazine

TMI eighth grader Marisa Gonzales is a contributor to the current Spring 2014 issue of ChicaGirl, a magazine for teenage girls. Marisa wrote a positive review of “The Test,” by Peggy Kern, a novel about a high-school girl who has to make difficult choices. The issue is available on newsstands; Marisa’s story is on page 41. TMI student recognized in national science contest

Lincoln Abbott, a sophomore at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas was named third runner-up for a Presidential Environmental Youth Award in environmental stewardship. Competing in Region 6 (South Central) of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Abbott won an award for his “GeoEngineering” project, in which he researched different substances that would best limit the transmission of visible light and heat through the atmosphere to mitigate the effects of climate change. TMI choir director tapped for fellowship

Joseph DeLoach, choir director of TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, was selected to be a conducting fellow in the University of Georgia Summer Choral Conducting Institute, an intensive, weeklong program of seminars and master classes for music educators and church musicians. DeLoach was one of 12 applicants chosen to participate in the Institute, to be held June 23-27 at the university’s Hugh Hodgson School of Music. TMI cadet tapped for Girls State

Jessica Corley, a junior at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, was nominated to attend Texas Bluebonnet Girls State 2014, to be held from June 15 to June 21 at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin. The program, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Texas, gives girls about to enter their senior year of high school an opportunity to learn how government works by performing the same duties as real office holders. Last night, at the end of the annual Spring Concert, the TMI Fine Arts Department began a new tradition of recognizing band and choir students who have excelled in their work. Freshman twins tapped for elite science program

Hannah Wool and Julia Wool, freshmen at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, have been selected to attend the Voelcker Biomedical Research Academy at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. They are the first set of twins to be accepted into this competitive program. The Academy provides an immersive biomedical research and education and college-preparatory for San Antonio high-school students. Up to 20 rising sophomores each year are accepted to this elite three-year summer program, in which participants are paired with outstanding biomedical scientists from UTHSC-San Antonio. TMI Robotics honored by City Council

The TMI Robotics team traveled to St. Louis, Mo. on April 23-26 to compete in the FTC World Championship with 128 other teams from around the world. Upon their return, members of the TMI Robotics team were honored May 1 by the San Antonio City Council for advancing to the championship. Several members of the varsity lacrosse team of TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas earned awards from the Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSLL) for outstanding play throughout the 2014 season, which the Panthers finished as San Antonio district champions. Senior Jonathan Clark received the Academic All American Award for the student-athlete who has earned the best academic record. At TMI, he is a member of the National Honor Society and earlier this year was named a National Hispanic Scholar, one of the highest-scoring, Hispanic-identified students who took the PSAT/NMSQT last year. TMI students help raise funds for Monarch Academy

The third annual Hand-in-Hand: A Night On The Runway fashion show with the students of the Monarch Academy at Morgan’s Wonderland and students at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas took place on Saturday March 1, 2014. TMI students buddied up with Monarch Academy students and participated in a number of activities during the school year, which culminated in a Fashion Show for the students at Morgan’s Wonderland. The purpose of Hand-in-Hand is to raise funds for the non-profit Monarch Academy, an innovative school for students with mild to moderate special needs.
