Taylor Devlin, a sophomore at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, completed her first year as a scholar with the Voelcker Biomedical Research Academy at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio by presenting her project, “Biophysical Characteristics of Pressure Effects in the Analytical Ultracentrifuge” at the Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute. The Academy provides an immersive biomedical research and education and college-preparatory for San Antonio high-school students. Up to 20 rising sophomores each year are accepted to this elite three-year summer program, in which participants are paired with outstanding biomedical scientists from UTHSC-San Antonio. Stephan Santos, a junior at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, was chosen to attend the Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) leadership seminar held at the University of Texas at Austin, where he was welcomed by Alison Miller ’10, a UT sophomore and junior counselor at the event. Panthers finish fast at H-E-B Zoo Fun Run

Members of the TMI cross-country team ran fast times at the H-E-B Zoo Fun Run, held Sept. 9 at the San Antonio Zoo, with teams of four competing. The team entered the fun run “to prepare us for our next big meet at UTSA,” said Head Varsity Cross-Country Coach Carrie Ridewood. In keeping with the theme of the event, the athletes wore their TMI team uniforms and decorated their faces to suggest their favorite animals. Five TMI seniors named National Merit semifinalists

Five seniors at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas have been named semifinalists in the annual National Merit Scholarship competition. They are: Megan Abbott, Douglas Carter, William Frost, Alex Hager and Hamilton Rogers. Panthers take first at volleyball tourney

The TMI varsity volleyball team won first place in the varsity volleyball tournament held Sept. 2-3 at Lutheran High School. The Panthers won 11 games to claim the championship title, besting Lutheran, Our Lady of the Hills, Utopia and others. All Tournament Team honors went to TMI outside hitter, Gabriella Greenfield, a junior; and setter/right-side hitter Allison Limmer, a senior. TMI skeet shoot benefits scholarships

The TMI Alumni Association will hold its 11th Annual Modified Sporting Clay Shoot on Sept. 9 at the San Antonio Gun Club, 928 Contour Drive. Registration begins at noon, the shoot starts at 1 p.m. and will be followed by an awards program and a barbecue dinner to be served at 4:30 p.m. Established in 2001, the event is presented by TMI alumni volunteers and is open to the public. TMI student wins equestrian awards

Marian Amini, a senior at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, has won several awards this summer showing her Paint horse, Just Plain English, “Jay,” in Western and English classes on the American Paint Horse Association and 4-H circuits. Amini won champion overall high point rider in both English and Western classes at the Texas 4-H District 10 horse show in Seguin. TMI cadet completes leadership program

Jeffrey Jaime Jr., a junior at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, successfully completed Future Leader Camp at Norwich University, a private military college in Northfield, Vt. The two-week summer program for high-school students provides participants with a challenging and meaningful adventure camp experience while building an understanding of small-group leadership techniques, ethics, teamwork, problem-solving and effective communications. Training includes classroom instruction as well as physical challenges such as climbing, rappelling and wilderness-survival skills taught during a three-day overnight exercise.
