TMI students named to Freshman Scholastic Society

On Monday, students were honored during chapel for membership into the Freshman Scholastic Society. The Freshman Scholastic Society is designed to recognize those freshman who maintain a GPA of 90 or above. The Freshman Scholastic Society encourages students to continue to excel in their classes to achieve membership into the National Honor Society (NHS) during their following years. These students will be eligible for NHS membership when they become sophomores and have maintained a GPA of 90 or above. TMI students help raise funds for Monarch Academy

The third annual Hand-in-Hand: A Night On The Runway fashion show with the students of the Monarch Academy at Morgan’s Wonderland and students at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas took place on Saturday March 1, 2014. TMI students buddied up with Monarch Academy students and participated in a number of activities during the school year, which culminated in a Fashion Show for the students at Morgan’s Wonderland. The purpose of Hand-in-Hand is to raise funds for the non-profit Monarch Academy, an innovative school for students with mild to moderate special needs. TMI Robotics advances to World Championships

Congratulations to TMI Robotics Team 6221 – Panther Bots Alpha. The team will be advancing to the 2013-2014 FIRST Robotics FTC World Championships, held in St. Louis, Missouri on April 23-26. Team 6221 will be the only San Antonio team advancing to the World Championship this season and the first San Antonio team to advance in five years. Team 6221 members include: Hector Castillo, Joaquin Castillo, Morgan Garbett, Chad Harthan, Jennifer Nash, Osman Sharaf, Annie Umer, Ian Vaughn and Harrison White. Corps Rifle Marksmanship and Physical Fitness Awards

Marksmanship awardees: Cadets received scores for their ability to shoot in three positions: the prone unsupported position, the kneeling position and the standing position. Each of these shooting positions could receive a score of 100 points with a total of 300 points maximum. Those individuals who qualified for the Marksmanship award, scored between 150 to 174 points. Three students from TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas were nominated to attend Texas Boys State 2014, to be held June 8-13 on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. Juniors Cadet Command Sgt. Maj. Markell Henderson, Cadet 1st. Sgt. Gerardo Martinez and Cadet Sgt. 1st class Leo Solis, all members of the Texas Military Institute Corps of Cadets (JROTC), will represent TMI as delegates to the annual conference. TMI student wins military scholarship

Markell Henderson, a junior at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, is the recipient of a Purple Heart Scholarship, a merit award sponsored by the Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States, of which TMI is a member, and the Purple Heart Service Foundation. He was presented with a certificate March 24 in daily chapel. Henderson, who serves as cadet command sergeant major, in the Texas Military Institute Corps of Cadets (JROTC), was nominated by TMI military faculty. Lincoln Abbott of Fair Oaks Ranch, a sophomore at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, was awarded first place March 4 at the Alamo Regional Science and Engineering Fair in the senior division’s Earth Science category for his project, “GeoEngineering: A Mitigation Strategy for Climate Change.” He also earned two special awards, one from the Southwest Gem & Mineral Society and the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s “Taking the Pulse of the Planet” Award.
