TMI Sophomore Starts New Urban Youth Program

Earlier this year, Sydney Masterson, a sophomore at TMI, met with the leadership of Urban Connection, a community development organization on the west side, to explore volunteer opportunities in a community she has been serving through her church for many years. In that meeting, it was revealed that while Urban Connection has several programs and activities for children up through 8th grade, they really do not have any programs for high school youth. Sydney proposed starting a summer vocational immersion program that would expose area high school students to a variety of career paths. Bernier joins ranks of fixed-wing aircraft pilots

Another TMI senior, Nicolas Bernier,  fulfilled his dream of learning to fly this summer. Nicolas completed required classroom training from May through July and flew more than 40 hours in a single-engine Cessna 172, until he passed his flight test Aug. 4 in Montreal, Canada, to qualify for his private pilot’s license. Little takes 1st in Britton’s Bikes Tiny Texas Tri

TMI senior and Cadet Battalion Commander Falon Little won first place in her age group (15-19) in her first-ever triathlon, Britton’s Bikes Tiny Texas Tri 2013, held July 28 at Boerne Lake. The event challenged participants to an 800m swim, 25K bike ride and 5K run. Falon also placed seventh out of all 53 female participants. TMI junior travels to Guatemala as part of a combined mission trip

TMI junior, Zach Evers, was one of 105 members of the San Antonio Guatemalan Endeavor (SAGE) Mission team that traveled to San Cristobal de Alta Verapaz, Guatemala on a combined medical/surgical and community development mission trip from Jul 10th-25th.  Zach was part of the 5-member advance team that prepared the destination hospital for the team’s arrival.  He also worked on a community development team that journeyed into the local communities and poured concrete to cover dirt floors, installed efficient wood-burning stoves and water filtration systems in 8 homes. TMI student earns ‘copter license

If anyone asks Truett Bloxsom, a senior at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, what he did during his summer vacation, he can say he mastered the aircraft that – like the bumblebee – is said to defy the physics of flight. A year after Bloxsom began taking lessons with Alamo Helicopters at Stinson Airport in San Antonio, he had completed 40 hours of flight lessons, training in the Robinson R22 and the Robinson R44, light helicopters seating two and four respectively. TMI grad wins special Miss Texas honor

Brooke Dippo-Foderaro, a 2013 graduate of TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas who was chosen Miss San Antonio earlier this year, received a special award presented at the Miss Texas Pageant on July 7. She was recognized as the contestant who raised the most contributions for the Children’s Miracle Network, the charity supported by the Miss America organization. Dippo-Foderaro raised more than $3,400 to be donated to this national network of children’s hospitals, including the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio. Students return from the TMI summer trip to Italy

TMI students and parents enjoyed exploring the Italian cities of Rome, Assisi, Florence, and Venice during the TMI Summer Trip to Italy which took place from June 17-25 with faculty sponsor Mrs. Claudia Clark. Group participants experienced the evolution in art and architecture from ancient Roman times to the Byzantine and on to the Renaissance and the Baroque. Moreover, they learned about the political, artistic, social and religious underpinnings of the Renaissance in its birthplace and its lasting influence. Cadet Clark makes his first solo flight

On Friday, June 28, 2013, Cadet Jonathan “JAC” Clark flew a Cessna 172 solo for the first time. Cadet Clark was the recipient of the Daedalian’s Cadet Flight Indoctrination Program Scholarship this past spring. The Order of the Daedalians is a fraternal order of military pilots, and the local chapter, Stinson Flight#2, holds an annual competition for four coveted slots for pilot training. The awards and scholarship programs of the Order encourage patriotism, integrity, and good character in our nation’s youth. TMI sophomore to play on National World Series Team

After a vigorous tryout Sunday afternoon, TMI sophomore David Embs was selected to the Under Armour Baseball Factory Omaha National World Series team and the National World Series team at Pirate City. Embs will play at the Under Armour Baseball Factory National World Series during the week of June 22-27 and in Bradenton, Florida during the week of August 5 – August 9.
