Panther Robotics advances to South Super-Regional Championship

On Saturday, February 8, 2014, TMI Panther Robotics Team 6219 and Team 6221 competed in the Alamo FTC Regional Championship Tournament. Team 6221, Panther Bots Alpha won the Motivate Award and will now advance to the South Super-Regional Championship. The Motivate Award celebrates the team that exemplifies the essence of FTC through team spirit and enthusiasm. They show their spirit through costumes, a cheer, or strong team identity. This team has also made a collective effort to make FIRST known throughout their school and community. Panthers compete at the Austin FTC Double Qualifier

Report by TMI Robotics Parent Debra Barnes Congratulations to TMI Panther Robotics for their performance at the Austin FTC Double Qualifier on Saturday, January 25, 2014. Both TMI teams exemplified the FIRST values of Gracious Professionalism and Coopertition. In the first qualifying match, Team 6219 loaned their alliance partners safety glasses and at the end of the day, after all matches were completed, our two teams jumped in to help the Field Set Up crew disassemble all four playing fields prior to the awards ceremony. Bloxsom tours Bristow Academy where he will continue his flight training

Senior Truett Bloxsom, already a licensed helicopter pilot, has accepted an offer of admission to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla. He is the recipient of the Chancellor’s Scholarship, for which he was selected from a highly qualified group, reflecting the university’s recognition of his accomplishments as a pilot and student. He also was invited by William E. Chiles ’67, president and CEO of the Bristow Group, to tour the Bristow Academy in Titusville, Fla., which he visited on December 19, 2013; he will continue his flight training at Bristow. TMI freshman wins VFW essay contest

Alexander Johnson, a freshman at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, won first place in a local Veterans of Foreign Wars audio essay contest, sponsored by the VFW Post 7108. The contest is part of the national organization’s Patriotic Audio Essay Competition, in which students in grades nine through 12 were asked to submit written and recorded essays on the topic, “Why I’m Optimistic About Our Nation’s Future.” Johnson delivered his speech and received his award in a Dec. 9 ceremony at the post’s headquarters in Helotes. Sophomore Lincoln Abbot receives top award for interview with a Korean War vet

Sophomore Lincoln Abbott was awarded first place for his essay, “Mr. James Craswell in the Korean War,” in the Third Annual San Antonio Korean War Essay Contest sponsored by the Korean American Association. This year’s contest commemorated the 60th anniversary of the Korean War. The purpose of the contest was to expose area high school students to the historical importance of the Korean War and to understand and appreciate the amount of service and sacrifice demonstrated by American Military Forces during the Korean War. TMI poetry winner bound for state

Elizabeth Holmes, a freshman at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, is the winner of the school’s Poetry Out Loud recitation contest and will advance to the state finals to be held Feb. 22 in Austin. Second-place winner is sophomore Sofia Miranda-Fred, who is also the alternate if Holmes is unavailable to compete at the state level. The TMI competition was held Dec. 2 in the school’s Margaret M. Alkek Theater with eight contestants representing all four Upper School grades.
