TMI sophomore earns Eagle Scout rank

Andrew Snyder, a sophomore at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas received the rank of Eagle Scout at a Board of Review on Aug. 12. This is the highest rank attainable in Boy Scouting; only about six percent of all Scouts earn Eagle rank. Snyder is a member of Troop 1920, chartered to St. Helena’s Episcopal Church in Boerne. He will be recognized for his achievement at an Eagle Court of Honor to be held Jan. 31, 2015. TMI takes the Ice Bucket Challenge

TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas took the big chill for charity Friday, Aug. 15, when nearly 50 faculty and staff lined up in the school’s Johnston Amphitheater to douse themselves with buckets of ice, following a nationwide trend in support of awareness of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Community-wide service project at Rock ‘N Roll Marathon

All members of the TMI community were invited to participate in the community-wide service project on November 17 at the San Antonio Rock ‘N Roll Marathon. TMI volunteers were out there at 5:00 a.m., partnering with Pape-Dawson Engineers, Inc., to mann a water station just past mile marker 10 of the race. The TMI community helped out to unload the delivery truck, disburse and arrange supplies and GU Energy Gel packets, cleanup trash, and breakdown after the event. TMI Sophomore Starts New Urban Youth Program

Earlier this year, Sydney Masterson, a sophomore at TMI, met with the leadership of Urban Connection, a community development organization on the west side, to explore volunteer opportunities in a community she has been serving through her church for many years. In that meeting, it was revealed that while Urban Connection has several programs and activities for children up through 8th grade, they really do not have any programs for high school youth. Sydney proposed starting a summer vocational immersion program that would expose area high school students to a variety of career paths. TMI junior travels to Guatemala as part of a combined mission trip

TMI junior, Zach Evers, was one of 105 members of the San Antonio Guatemalan Endeavor (SAGE) Mission team that traveled to San Cristobal de Alta Verapaz, Guatemala on a combined medical/surgical and community development mission trip from Jul 10th-25th.  Zach was part of the 5-member advance team that prepared the destination hospital for the team’s arrival.  He also worked on a community development team that journeyed into the local communities and poured concrete to cover dirt floors, installed efficient wood-burning stoves and water filtration systems in 8 homes. TMI senior builds pad site for chapel

Dillon Bukowski, a senior at TMI, received his Eagle Scout rank at an Eagle Board of Review in November at Coker Elementary School. A member of Troop 515, chartered to St. Thomas Elementary School, Dillon and his crew built a pad site for the Seraphic Sisters at the Divine Mercy Chapel. He had previously completed several other community-service projects for the religious order and wanted to honor the Sisters with his Eagle project. His sister Corgey, an eighth-grader at TMI volunteered to beautify the new pad site by planting shrubs around it. TMI students step up to aid more needy families

Students from TMI took on a big challenge this year with the school’s Adopt a Family drive, increasing the number of families aided from seven to 42. In three previous years the school has conducted a holiday charity drive, the goal was to supply the needs and wish lists of an entire household, including clothing, furnishings and big-ticket items such as bicycles, says Adopt a Family Parent Coordinator Donna Basse, who has volunteered with the project each year.
