Students compete in the Texas State Junior Classical League Area B Convention

This past weekend, 23 students from TMI competed in the Texas State Junior Classical League (TSJCL ) Area B Convention at John Paul Stevens High School where nearly 1,000 students from 28 different local high schools converged to celebrate the classics and to test their knowledge of Latin Grammar, Latin Vocabulary, Latin Literature, Latin Derivatives, Roman History, Roman Life, Mythology, Latin Mottoes and Abbreviations, Ancient Geography and Monuments and many more. TMI student wins finalist place at poetry competition

Seeley Stephens, a junior at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, was named one of five finalists at the Texas state finals of the Poetry Out Loud competition, hosted by the Texas Commission on the Arts on Feb. 23 in the auditorium of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin. Winners from Texas high schools met for the state contest, for which they recited poetry from memory. TMI freshman takes first at area science fair

Lincoln Abbott, a freshman at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, earned first place in engineering, senior division, at the Alamo Junior Academy of Science competition, held Feb. 9 at the University of Texas at San Antonio. For his project, “Geo-engineering: A Mitigation Strategy for Climate Change,” Abbott conducted an experiment, wrote a project report and presented a 12-minute oral report of his findings. Judges evaluated students on creative ability, scientific thought, thoroughness, clarity, abstract, purpose, procedure, data, conclusion and presentation. TMI cadets and Kampmann recipients at the Kampmann family reception

TMI cadets were on hand to usher at the Friday evening plaque dedication at the Menger Hotel, February 1, honoring John Herman Kampmann by the Texas Historical Commission. Two TMI seniors, Lauren Chu and Emily Schlosberg, are this year’s recipients of the merit scholarship named after Mrs. Kampmann. Four recent graduates of TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas took time from their winter break to share their college knowledge with this year’s seniors at the annual Alumni College Panel, held Tuesday, Jan. 08, in Frost Athletic Center. The returning young alumni were Kyle Bowers ’10, a junior biochemistry/premedical studies major at the University of Tulsa; Andrew Murphy ’11, a Vassar College sophomore; Morgan McMillian ’12, a freshman at Texas A&M University; and Mackenzie White ’12, a freshman in the Plan II Honors Program at the University of Texas at Austin. Falon Little, a junior at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, has been named a semifinalist in the 24th Annual Christian Athlete of the Year Awards for Texas. There are 75 female and 75 male semifinalists chosen from more than 4,500 applicants.Students are nominated by their schools’ coaches, teachers or athletic directors. Semifinalists were selected based upon their commitment to excellence in athletics, academics and demonstrated integrity in their Christian faith. TMI poetry winner qualifies for state finals

Seeley Stephens, a junior at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, was the winner of the school’s first Poetry Out Loud contest, part of a national recitation competition for high-school students. Runner-up was senior Lauren Chu. Two students from each Upper School grade were chosen from English-class competitions to participate in a schoolwide contest, in which the participants were required to recite two complete poems from memory. Middle School certamen tournament

Two teams made up of 7th and 8th graders competed for nearly four hours in the season’s first certamen tournament at Clark HS this past Saturday, 10 November. Students competing in the novice division were Ethan Arellano, Jacob Saenger, Borna Hajivandi, Juan Pablo Martinez, Royya Osouli, Elizabeth Holmes, Maddy Herrera, Hope Westerman, Jacob Carter, and Peter Fera. TMI X-country athletes named Academic All State

Berkeley Brown and Christopher Pietraszkiewicz, both juniors at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, were named to Academic All State for cross-country by Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS). TAPPS recognizes an Academic All State team in every conference sport. To be eligible, student athletes must be juniors or seniors with a grade point average of 90 or better. In cross-country, they must place in the Top 15 at the state meet. Brown and Pietraszkiewicz both are members of the National Honor Society.
