TMI student earns pilot’s license

Jackson “Jack” Basil of Boerne, a junior at TMI Episcopal, has earned his pilot’s license for single-engine aircraft.  He flew a Piper Tomahawk, successfully completing his FAA check ride, Oct. 5 at New Braunfels Regional Airport.

Basil made his first solo flight July 2 at New Braunfels Regional Airport, completing the initial required step in pursuit of a private pilot’s license. He was the recipient last spring of a scholarship to the Stinsons Flight Daedalian Flying Training Program. He received one of four scholarships awarded for the program’s 2019 class, which began May 17.

At TMI, Basil is a member of the Texas Military Institute Corps of Cadets (Army JROTC) and serves as captain of its rifle team. He has been active for years in the Kendall County 4-H Shooting Sports organization and was chosen as one of 15 Texas delegates to attend the national Youth Education Summit (YES), an event that teaches high-school students about government, held last summer in Washington D.C.
