TMI students chosen for young leaders program

TMI Episcopal rising juniors Claire Williams and Leon Toursarkissian show off their certificates for completing the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership seminar, Texas Capital Area, held June 7-9 at the University of Texas in Austin.

Two rising juniors, Leon Toursarkissian and Claire Williams, represented TMI Episcopal at the Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) Texas Capital Area State Leadership seminar, held June 7-9 at the University of Texas at Austin.

The organization’s annual seminars provide opportunities for leadership development in three areas – personal, group and societal. Participants, who are nominated by their high schools, interact with local community leaders, take part in hands-on leadership activities and conduct a community-service project.

At TMI, both Toursarkissian and Williams are members of the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society. Both also won gold medals in the National Spanish Exam and earned end-of-year academic awards. Toursarkissian is a member of the Texas Military Corps of Cadets (JROTC), and Williams plays varsity soccer. They were chosen for HOBY by school administrators based on leadership potential and faculty references.
