TMI tennis team places 1st in District, sends 5 to State

The varsity tennis team from TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas celebrates its first-place win at the TAPPS District 3-4A Tournament, held April 10-11 in Austin. Five TMI players also qualified to go on to state competition.

The varsity tennis team from TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas took first place in the TAPPS (Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools) District 3-4A Tennis Tournament, held April 10-11 at the Austin Tennis Center in Austin.

Five members of the Panthers’ district team qualified for the state championship to be held April 24-25 at the Waco Regional Tennis Center in Waco. They are: Junior Berkeley Brown, who won the girls’ singles tournament; sophomore Daniel Charlton and junior Rodrigo Zurita placed third in boys’ doubles; and junior Victor Martinez and sophomore Eduardo Orozco placed fourth in boys’ doubles.

All members of the team, including Emilee Bassett, Truett Bloxsom, Aidan Christopherson, Elsa Goettsch, Keely Gomez, Stefany Kiesz and Daniel Wholey, won matches at the tournament and contributed to the first-place finish.

“We were very impressed by the team’s effort and success and are very happy, especially for the players themselves,” said Coach Steve Landkamer. “Every single team member present contributed points toward our No. 1 finish.”
