TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas has won a Field of Excellence Award from Pioneer Athletics, a Cleveland, Ohio-based manufacturer of field equipment. The nationwide program recognizes schools and communities for outstandingly well-maintained sports fields.

Applicants are judged on mowing and overall maintenance, striping and original designs. Assistant Athletic Director Chris Nelson is responsible for the care of TMI’s Howell Field, on which Panther football is played, as well Kolitz Field for baseball and softball and multipurpose fields.

TMI has won the award five times since 2007. “Once again, Chris has honored us with this award,” said Frank Goza, TMI’s director of operations and finance. “He takes a lot of pride in making TMI’s athletic fields the best they can be, working long hours to make sure the fields are properly mowed, fertilized, watered, painted and lined. Chris is very deserving of this recognition that was given this year to only 72 other individuals, many from bigger high schools and colleges.”

Fields of Excellence recognition qualifies winning schools to be chosen for Pioneer-sponsored scholarships, to be announced later this year.
