TMI Scout’s project contributes to community safety

For his Eagle Scout project, TMI freshman Lincoln Abbott built a footbridge last summer in Norman Vestal Park in Fair Oaks Ranch. He received his rank Nov. 11 at an Eagle Court of Honor ceremony.

Lincoln Abbott, a freshman at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Boy Scouting. A member of Troop 233, chartered to Leon Springs Presbyterian Church, where he received his rank Nov. 11 in an Eagle Court of Honor ceremony.

For his community-service project requirement, Abbott replaced an old footbridge in Norman Vestal Park in Fair Oaks Ranch with a new, safer and more durable one. After inspection by an engineer, Abbott and his volunteer crew — including TMI sophomore and fellow troop member Zach Evers — tore down the warped, old bridge to its support posts and rebuilt it, adding a complete handrail system and wood preservative to protect the new bridge from water damage.

The project, says Abbott, “benefits residents of our city because it provides a safe structure for families to walk across as they are using the park and saves the Homeowners Association time, effort and funds.”

A plaque commemorating Abbott’s contribution was placed near the bridge by the Fair Oaks Ranch Homeowners Association.
