Ryne Hutton, a seventh-grader at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, raised a steer selected as reserve champion March 22 at Rodeo Austin. Carl, a 1,255-pound Maine Anjou was chosen from out of 12 finalists and an original field of 500.
Hutton, age 13, is a member of the Kendall County 4-H club. At auction, the steer brought $20,000, which Hutton will put toward his college fund. He plans to study ranch management at Texas Christian University.
Steer selection was judged in front of the Texas State Capitol, in honor of the rodeo’s 75th anniversary.
