The Middle School Robotics team of TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas received awards as first-time participants in the FIRST FLL (First LEGO League) competition, held March 3 in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Sixty-one teams from San Antonio and South Texas took part in the competition, which consisted of three interviews — Teamwork/Core Values, Robot/Program Design, and Research Project Presentation – and three rounds of robot competition. Four seniors at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas were notified last month that they have been named finalists in the annual National Merit Scholarship competition. They are: Megan Abbott, Douglas Carter, Alex Hager and Hamilton Rogers. Recognized for high scores on the 2010 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, they are among 15,000 high-school seniors nationwide to gain finalist standing in the competition for 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth a total of more than $34 million. Students from TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas took first place in their division at the Area B Texas State Junior Classical League Convention, held Feb. 18 in Reagan High School. Through points accumulated in individual competitions, the TMI team placed first over 14 other schools, including Saint Mary’s Hall (second place), Johnson High School (third) and Incarnate Word High School (fourth), as well as Marshall, Churchill, Canyon, O’Connor, St. Anthony’s, Central Catholic, Stevens, MacArthur, Mt. Three eighth-grade students have been chosen to receive the most prestigious merit scholarships awarded by TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas. LeSean Brown of Spring Branch Middle School and Sofia Miranda-Fred of Keystone School are recipients of the Margaret M. and Albert B. They are: Andrew Owens, Collin Shinkle and Mackenzie White. These academically talented students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2012 competition by taking the 2010 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMQT).
