TMI Episcopal is proud to announce that Andrea Wagner ’97 will be joining our Athletic Department as Assistant Athletic Director in a full-time capacity. A distinguished alumna, Coach Wagner brings a unique blend of academic insight, professional athletic administration, and a deep passion for mentoring student-athletes.
Andrea holds a Ph.D. in Sports Communication from the University of Alabama and has spent nearly a decade as a college professor in communications and sport management at institutions such as Trinity University and the University of the Incarnate Word. Her teaching and research focus on leadership, media influence, and the role of sports in personal and societal development.
In addition to her academic background, Coach Wagner previously held the position of Assistant Athletic Director, where she oversaw marketing, social media engagement, and compliance initiatives. At Cornerstone Christian Schools, she guided the middle and high school cross country and track programs to multiple state championships, established numerous school records, and assisted in developing collegiate-level athletes. Her role also encompassed operations, policy development, and public-facing athletic communications.
As an elite athlete, Andrea is a 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials marathon qualifier who has completed 55 marathons and has participated in national-level obstacle course races and triathlons. Her commitment to long-term athletic development and personal excellence fuels her passion to inspire the next generation, especially young girls, through mentorship, encouragement, and active coaching.
As Assistant Athletic Director, Coach Wagner will oversee the Middle School athletics program, act as the liaison to the Independent School Athletic League (ISAL), manage TMI Athletics’ digital communication and social media initiatives, and support the department’s strategic vision. She will also continue coaching Middle School Cross Country in the fall and Track & Field in the spring, providing a consistent and encouraging presence for our youngest student-athletes.
Additionally, Andrea will sit at the Athletics Leadership table, where she will help shape policies, contribute to strategic planning, and, most importantly, advocate for the needs and development of our student-athletes across all levels of the program.
“Returning to TMI feels like coming home,” said Andrea. “I’m excited to give back to the community that shaped me and to help create a supportive, inclusive, and empowering environment for our student-athletes. I especially hope to inspire young girls to remain engaged in sports through consistent encouragement, mentorship, and developmental support.”
Peter Casey, Athletic Director, shared, “We are thrilled to welcome Andrea to our leadership team. Her professional expertise, personal accomplishments, and deep roots in the TMI community make her uniquely qualified to help guide the future of our athletics program. Her voice at the leadership table will be instrumental in advocating for the holistic growth of our student-athletes.”
Andrea exemplifies TMI’s core values of Wisdom, Integrity, Service, Excellence, and Reverence. Her energy, expertise, and leadership will be a tremendous asset as we continue to grow and elevate the TMI athletics program. Please join us in welcoming Coach Andrea Wagner back to TMI!
