This past weekend, TMI Panthers Franco and Marcelo Parra ’24 competed in the 2022 Nike Outdoor Championships held at the University of Oregon. Both rising juniors represented Panther Nation in grand fashion as Marcelo finished 3rd in the 2000m Steeplechase with a time of 5:51.68. That beat the class record by 9 seconds and makes him the only sophomore in the country to run a sub-6 minute race! In the 5000m, Marcelo finished 7th with a time of 14:37.55 placing him 3rd all-time in the state of Texas. Franco dominated the field in the 5000m winning gold after running a 14:32.69 and finishing as the National Champion! Franco’s 1st place finish also lands him 2nd all-time in the state of Texas and, for their efforts, both Marcelo and Franco earned All-American honors. Congratulations to these fine young men and safe travels as they return home. It’s a great day to be a Panther!!
