TMI Scouts complete mountain trek

TMI Episcopal juniors Aidan Sherman and Jackson Spears completed a 71-mile backpacking trek Aug. 6 at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico.

Both are members of Troop 102, sponsored by First United Methodist Church in Boerne. At Philmont, a BSA adventure camp, they summited four peaks, tackled rock climbing and rappelling, muzzle-loaded rifle shooting and fly fishing, while carrying 50-pound backpacks on the trail for 12 days.

At TMI, Sherman and Spears are both members of the Texas Military Corps of Cadets (JROTC). Sherman plays varsity soccer, has been a member of the TMI Band and earned honors at last year’s Texas Junior Classical League South Texas Area Convention. Spears competed on the school’s CyberPatriot cyber defense team and plays in the band.
