TMI students attend Girls State

7/26/2018 Anne “Annie” Notzon and Trinity Walker, both rising seniors at TMI Episcopal, represented their school as delegates to Bluebonnet Girls State , held June 17-23 at Texas Lutheran University, with a Capitol Day visit to Austin. Ana Paula Velasco, a 2017 graduate of TMI and a 2016 delegate to Girls State, returned for her second year as a counselor.

Requirements for school nominees include demonstrated accomplishments of leadership, citizenship and character in their schools and community.

The program, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Texas, gives girls about to enter their senior year of high school an opportunity to learn how government works by performing the same duties as real office holders. Participants organize their own city, county and state governments, electing officials, learning the duties of the various offices and introducing and debating bills in a mock legislature.

Texas Girls State concludes with a visit to the state capitol in Austin, where participants tour the building and meet state officials.
