TMI student claims first in Abilene tennis tourney

Jorge Garcia, a TMI sixth grader, receives his medal for first place in his division Aug. 10 at the Abilene Champ Major Zone Tournament. With this win, Garcia advances to the highest level of USTA junior tennis in Texas.

Jorge Garcia, a sixth grader at TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas, won first place in Boys’ 12 Singles at the Abilene Champ Major Zone Tennis Tournament, a U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) sanctioned event held Aug. 9-10 at Rose Park Tennis Center in Abilene.

Playing on a hard-court surface, Garcia won four straight matches in two days, giving up only one single set for the entire tournament. After competing in the USTA Champs Division for more than a year, he has advanced to the USTA Super Champs Division, the highest level of junior tennis in Texas.
