2009 Rising Star: Dr. Keith Chapman ’91

Keith Chapman graduated in 1991 from TMI, where he was the Battalion Commander. After completing his undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University, Keith earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the UT Health Science Center in San Antonio. Keith used these skills as a crew dentist aboard the Mercy Ships, a humanitarian organization providing medical care to the poorest countries. Keith is cofounder of Trinity Dental Clinic in Monrovia, Liberia, where he lives with his wife Kristin and their three children. The goal of the clinic is to provide dental treatment for the millions of poor in Liberia, primarily those whose lives are threatened by dental infection. In the nine months the clinic has been open, it has provided care to about 2,500 patients.

When talking about servant leadership, Keith says, “I believe that to serve our fellow man, especially those in need, is the highest calling for every one of us. Our natural inclination is to always be served, but we must strive to be the one who serves instead.” When asked what he appreciates most about his TMI education, Keith answers, “the discipline, camaraderie, and excellent faculty.” Keith is also a gifted musician and recently released an album entitled Breaking New Ground.
