TMI Episcopal, founded in 1893 as the West Texas Military Academy by Bishop James Steptoe Johnston, began as a military school focused on academic rigor and character development. Over time, it evolved to reflect societal changes, becoming co-educational in 1972 and making its military program optional in 1974. In 2004, the school embraced its Episcopal roots by adopting the name “TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas,” later streamlined to TMI Episcopal in 2017.
Continuing its commitment to innovation, TMI opened the Walker Innovation Center in 2020, emphasizing STEM and leadership development.
