TMI Episcopal Names Nic Junell as New Head Coach for Girls Volleyball

We are excited to announce that Nic Junell (“Coach J”) has been appointed as the new Head Coach of the Volleyball Program at TMI Episcopal.

Coach J brings 22 years of coaching experience at both the high school and club levels, joining TMI with a deep understanding of our school culture and athletic mission. She has coached in Texas, Colorado, New York, and Germany, giving her a broad perspective on athlete development, competition, and leadership.

Most recently, Coach J served as the Head Volleyball Coach at St. John Paul II Catholic High School, where she led her program to consistent success, including TAPPS 4A District Championships, Area Championships, a Regional Championship, and a State Runner-Up finish. Additionally, she has been a long-time coach with the San Antonio Force Volleyball Club, working with athletes across various age groups and competitive levels.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Junell to TMI,” said Peter Casey, Director of Athletics. “She is a proven leader who builds strong relationships with her athletes while setting high standards for growth, accountability, and competitive excellence. Her passion for the game and dedication to student development make her an excellent fit for our community.”

Coach J is known for her energy, organization, and ability to meaningfully connect with student-athletes, helping them thrive. She fosters a positive, high-expectations setting that challenges players to grow both on the court and as individuals. Her approach emphasizes teamwork, trust, and a love for the game. “I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunity to lead the TMI volleyball program,” said Coach Junell. “TMI is a special place, and I’m eager to work with our athletes, collaborate with the administration, and build a program grounded in effort, character, and competitive spirit.”

Outside of volleyball, Coach J recently married Mason Pounds, a football coach and educator at Medina Valley High School. She enjoys spending time outdoors and shares her life with their Great Dane, Edison, and a newly rescued bearded dragon, Ember.

Please join us in welcoming Coach Junell to her new role. We are excited to have her lead our girls’ volleyball program into an exciting new chapter, including our first season competing in the SPC (Southwest Preparatory Conference) in fall 2026. Her experience, leadership, and passion for developing student-athletes make her the right person to guide our program as we prepare for this important transition. We look forward to the continued growth and success of TMI volleyball.
