TMI Episcopal is pleased to announce Benay Weintraub as the new associate athletic director. A Memphis, Tennessee, native, Weintraub is a graduate of St. George’s Independent School and brings a strong background in coaching, leadership, and athletic administration to TMI.

Weintraub has a Master of Science in Exercise and Sport Studies from Smith College, where she also served as a graduate teaching fellow and assistant women’s tennis coach. She earned her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and nutrition sciences from Whittier College, where she was a four-year member of the tennis team, an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). She was appointed to the college’s Title IX Committee. She is a 2023 graduate of WeCoach 2.0, a 2017 graduate of WeCoach, and remains active in the organization’s mentorship programs. She also holds a certificate in education from the University of Southern California and is currently pursuing a school management and leadership certificate from Harvard University.

At TMI, Weintraub will join the Athletics Leadership Team, working closely with athletic director Peter Casey to oversee Upper School athletics. Her responsibilities include supporting coaches and student-athletes, coordinating schedules and operations, and guiding the program through a major conference transition. This year will be TMI’s final season in TAPPS 6A before moving to the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) in 2026–27.

Recently, Weintraub was the director of middle school athletics and the associate director of upper school athletics at Menlo School in California. There, she developed an age-appropriate sports performance curriculum, served as an admissions reader, league assistant commissioner, and a committee member for EDIB and student support, while also overseeing department policies and collegiate recruitment.

Her earlier career highlights include serving as the head women’s tennis coach at Caltech, where she led the team to its highest-ever national ranking and recruited a top-15 class. She previously coached at Amherst College, where her teams reached the NCAA Elite 8, and at the University of California, Irvine. Her work with USTA Southern California included founding the Women Who Ace Conference and Achievement Award Ceremony, both aimed at empowering and advancing women in sport. She also held assistant coaching positions at Rhodes and Millsaps Colleges, where her recruiting efforts brought in nationally ranked classes.

“Benay is a rare talent—intensely driven, values-centered, and committed to helping young people thrive,” said Peter Casey, TMI’s athletic director. “Her breadth of experience, from the collegiate level to independent schools, will bring a fresh perspective and proven leadership to our department. I couldn’t be more excited to welcome her to TMI.”

“Joining the TMI community is an incredible honor,” said Benay Weintraub. “I look forward to working with the outstanding coaches, educators, and students who make this school special. I’m eager to help shape a dynamic and competitive athletics culture as we progress toward the future.”
