TMI senior Jaclyn Bowes has won two local student art contests during the current school year.

TMI senior Jaclyn Bowes has been judged one of the outstanding student artists entered in the Western Art Contest and Exhibit sponsored by the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.

Her watercolor painting, “High Flyer,” was selected as one of the Top 50 artworks among more than 570 submitted this year to the Stock Show’s student art contest. The winning artworks may be viewed Feb. 4-21 in the Hall of Fame on the Freeman Coliseum grounds.

Bowes also was chosen as one of 14 students to receive a scholarship for summer study at the Museum of Western Art Academy in Kerrville. Courses are taught by professional artists, and students may receive college credit.

Last fall, Bowes won both first-place and runner-up awards in the Young Adults category of the Inspire Fine Art Center’s Emerging Artists Juried Art Show.

“Jackie Bowes is one of the most naturally gifted art students that I have had the privilege to teach,” says TMI art teacher Allan Rupe. “Her amazing attention to detail puts her a step above the rest.”

At TMI, Bowes is a member of National Honor Society, plays varsity tennis, has competed in Junior Classical League events and shown her work at the annual ISAS (Independent Schools Association of the Southwest) Fine Arts Festival. She is currently enrolled in Advanced Placement (AP) Studio Art, a college-level course that requires students to submit a portfolio of 29 works in a variety of media.

She is the daughter of Anita King Bowes, M.D., and Harrison N. Bowes Jr., M.D.
